TUSCALOOSA SCRATCHY copy

Tuscaloosa

April 18, 2025

The first single from Outer Park’s upcoming 5th album, Chameleon (release fall 2025)
Verse 1
Stole a car. Didn’t get far.
Stole another one, wrecked it just for fun!
Standard procedure at the time.
No hands on the wheel. Scene was surreal.
Foot down like lead. Needle in the red.
Turned to check a chick on a billboard. What the hell could go wrong?

Verse 2
Just my luck. Didn’t see the truck.
Swerved just in time. Coulda turned out fine.
But then I bounced off a Cadillac.
Caddy hit the rail. I was facing jail.
Loads of self-assurance, not too much insurance,
No time or inclination for any conversation with the law.

Pre-chorus
Living on the run, for a while it was fun.
But that was a battle that couldn’t be won.
Court was in session; to teach me a lesson.
Judge gave me a glare,
said, “You get the chair!”

Chorus
My plan to get rich got hit with a hitch.
I hit the ditch. They flipped the switch.
And I never made it back to Tuscaloosa.

Verse 3
She was nuts. But she had guts.
Roadhouse in sight. Pulled in on the right.
Glad to visit Alabama.
Coffee for me. “Straight gin”, said she.
Shoulda been a warning at nine in the morning!
She looked me in the eye and tossed it down with a grin.

Pre-chorus  /  Chorus  /  Bridge (Instrumental)

Verse 4
Road to hell, and a cheap motel.
Real run down, bad part of town.
Into the lot and rang the bell.
We passed a blissful hour. I jumped into the shower.
My foot touched the shag, and I saw the red flag.

Spoken: The bed was empty. The door was open. The car was gone. She had zagged.

Pre-chorus (heightened)  /  Chorus (extended)  /  Codetta with repeats of hook
